Injured thumb pain relief?
Yesterday my thumb got stuck at a door knob space, and it pulled away some skin. I was bleeding much, and I was able to control it after applying pressure and some anti-hemorrhagic (stop bleeding) powder. Now I am just using some antibiotic cream to cover the wound. I have a lot of pain in my thumb, affecting also the rest of my hand. Is this normal? What are some home remedies for pain relief? Can I use ice to soothe my finger?
You are doing the right things. The ice may help the swelling initially but after a while, you run the risk of giving the injured tissues frostbite if you leave the ice on too long. The antibiotic cream should be applied daily to every other day and covered with a non adherent dressing (like a bandaid). Make sure you move all the joints of the thumb frequently as this helps pump the swelling out of it and will help it heal faster.
